30 seconds swimming in place
The child pushes off the pool wall with their hands and attempts to swim in place about one meter away from the edge. The set time goal can be adjusted to suit your child’s abilities, but 30 seconds is a good benchmark at this stage. So far, the children haven’t learned a specific method to stay in place for an extended time in the water. The proper technique for treading water will be introduced in a later course. However, it’s still beneficial to occasionally challenge the children with such exercises and test their creativity in the water. You’ll observe a variety of solutions: some children stay afloat using a combination of flutter kicks and circular arm movements, others quickly realize they can repeatedly switch to the starfish position, which is far less tiring. Some even instinctively begin treading water correctly, while others may feel completely overwhelmed and need to return to the edge after just a few seconds.
